Lottery Winner Trains for Kona ... in Iraq
Every year since 1996, Marine Major Bill Conner has applied for a lottery slot to the Ironman World Championship race in Kona, Hawaii. Every April since 1996, Conner has logged onto the Ironman.com website on the day the lottery selections were announced, hoping to see his name on the list. But on April 15th, 2008, Conner did not visit the website. Assigned as both Executive Officer and Operations Officer for a battalion at Camp Fallujah in Iraq, Conner was fully occupied with his duties. Spectacular Newfoundland Event Includes Defending Champs
With defending men's champion Craig Alexander set to take on a competitive men's field that includes Chris Legh, Richie Cunningham and Canadian favorite Brent McMahon, this weekend's Ironman 70.3 Newfoundland promises to be quite a race. That'll be at the front of the race, but you can be sure that the rest of the athletes competing on Sunday will enjoy a spectacular race experience, too.
