Race Description:
The Ironman Australian Triathlon is a qualifying event for both the Ironman Triathlon World Championship in Hawaii each October and for the Australian Open Ultra-distance Championship. It also serves as the NSW's State Ultra Distance Championship triathlon, and as such is the grand finale of the annual competition for the Greg Welch Trophy. Winning times for Ironman Australia are fast, and those athletes who can combine speed with technical skill will excel.

The race fills quickly every year, with a maximum field of around 1,200 triathletes. It will once again attract the cream of the world's top Ironman racers, and once again provide a party atmosphere that rivals the best Ironman venues.
